Smoothie Centre

The past couple weeks, some of our students decided that they wanted to make smoothies in the Theatre Centre.  With the help of these students, we have transformed the dramatic play centre into a Smoothie Store! Katelyn, Kylie and Bryce made signs that listed the flavours.  They wrote the names of the fruits in the same colour as the fruit and they added prices.  Katelyn said "They cannot all be the same price, because some fruits cost more."

The students then sorted the fruit by colour and organized their store.

We decided that we needed a blender (Smoothie Maker) so we made one using recycled materials and Katelyn wrote a label for it.

The students put the fruit in the smoothie maker and then shake it up to make the smoothie!

The students waited patiently in line to order their smoothies.

Students could ask to get their smoothies in a cup or a bottle (tasse ou bouteille).

Bryce also wrote a sign for the top of the store that says "Smoothies".

"Would you like a cup or a bottle?" -Katelyn

All of the friends really enjoyed sipping on their smoothies while they played.

Michael washed the fruits when the students were done so they can use them again. "They are dirty, so I am washing them." -Michael

The students also decided they needed straws to drink the smoothies (les pailles).

They love making us yummy smoothies!

Bryce made a clock to add to the store. "Here is huit, sept, six..."

Katelyn had the idea that it was easier to run the store with only 3 people, so we made a schedule for students to "work" at the store.  We have 1 supervisor and 3 employees per shift/playtime.  The students can sign up for a turn to work at the store.

Bryce made a sign that said "wiat in line" (wait in line) and he drew a picture of 3 people waiting in line.  He wanted to tape it to the floor to show the students where to line up to get their smoothies.

Quinn: " I would like watermelon!"
Kylie: "We don't have that."
Quinn: "Well it says it on the sign!"

The students are reading the menu to pick a flavour!

Bryce also made a "no nuts" sign to add to the Smoothie Store because we have allergies in our class.

Michael decided that we needed a sign to say open (ouvert) and closed (fermé).  We added it to the front of the store so the students know when it is open.

The students added a phone to the store and they were taking orders.  One student would tell the other student what the order was and they would gather the fruit.

Paisley: "They want banane (banana) and strawberry."

The students are very good at organizing the store when they are done playing.
