Les Nombres

Since school started, we have been practising our counting in French.  We count our friends, we count how long it takes to get ready, we count our toys, we count all the time!  We have also been working on representing numbers in different ways, writing our numbers (both the numerals and in words), and recognizing quantities without having to count (like on a dice or dot cards).  We have begun counting backwards and examining stable order (that 2 always comes after 1, 6 is always before 7, etc.).  Your child should have a strong understanding of how to count to 10 in French and how to do this using one-to-one correspondence (moving 1 block, toy, etc. at a time while saying the corresponding number).  At home, you can help your child by playing games that involve dice (ex. snakes and ladders), having your child set the table for a given number of people, and pointing out numbers they see in their environment.  As a class we made a set of number cards to show us all the ways we can represent the numbers 1-10.
