Sign Language Lessons with Kylie

During our afternoon circle on Friday Claudia shared some writing she did during class. She wrote I love you mommy, daddy and Xavier (her brother) in Polish!
(Kocham cię, mama, tata i Xavier.) After she shared this with the class the children began to tell us about other languages they speak at home or that their families speak. Some friends knew a little bit of Italian, Spanish, Cambodian, Chinese, Greek and then Kylie said "I know sign language!" The children seemed very interested in how to spell their names in sign language. Kylie decided that she would set up a table during playtime to teach any friends who were interested how to spell their names. She said "Okay, I am ready for whatever friends would like to join me at my table." A lot of friends came up and practiced. Kylie showed them, had them do it with her and then had them repeat it to make sure they understood. Kylie and some friends even went to the office to show Mrs. Bates how to spell her name!
Wow, thank you for showing us that Kylie.

Kylie helps Gabriel by placing his fingers in the correct position. The letter 'R' is a tricky one!

Wow! He did it.

Yara practices her name after Kylie shows her how to spell it.

Below Corin spells out his name all by himself after Kylie showed him. Way to go, Corin!
