Character Counts!

Congratulations to Warren for winning this month's Character Counts t-shirt.
The trait this month was citizenship. Warren is a good citizen to our earth 

because he recycles, composts, and cleans up the classroom everyday!

Warren is a good citizen to the other children and teachers by being polite, respecting people's property, and by listening to others' opinions to work out problems. Great job Warren, you should be very proud of yourself!

Lundi l'art - Monet

This week we looked at the work of Claude Monet.  He was a painter who painted scenes of the outdoors.  We use watercolour paint that we made using old markers.  We put the old markers upside down in a cup of water and it created paint!  We then drew scenes with plants, trees, flowers, etc. and painted them with watercolour paint.  It was fun to see how the watercolour paints would mix together.

Mulitcultural Celebration!

Hello Families,

Over the next two weeks we will be talking about all of the diverse cultures of our world. We will discuss languages, celebrations, and food. At the end of our unit on Friday, June 12th between the hours of 12pm-1pm we would like to invite families in to share about their own cultures. We will be celebrating on that day with a multicultural lunch. Families who join us are invited to bring a special dish that is unique to their culture. Please write in your child's communication book to let us know you are coming and what dish you will be bringing. Please remember not to make/bring anything containing nuts or eggs.

Books and artifacts from your culture are also most welcome. Please feel free to send them in throughout those two weeks.

Spirit Assembly and Spirit Day

Tomorrow we are having our spirit assembly for May.  The character trait for this month is Citizenship.  The assembly will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the gym.

Students and staff are encouraged to wear their Spirit Wear and hats to show their School SPIRIT!!!

Sandal Weather - Running Shoes needed for Gym

Dear parents and Guardians,

As the weather gets warmer, students may be wearing sandals to school. Please ensure that any sandals worn to school are securely fastened to the students’ feet so they don’t fall off during the day or when running at recess.   Also, sandals are not permitted to be worn in gym class, so please send socks and running shoes for the students to wear during gym on days 1, 3 and 5.  If they do not have running shoes, they will not be able to participate in gym class.

Items Needed!

Our Welcome to Kindergarten evening for our new Spartans is quickly approaching! We are in need of some items for an environmental print centre. If you have any (empty) boxes (for example, cereal, Kraft Dinner, toy), signs, store flyers, clean food wrappers or boxes from favourite restaurants, labels or anything with recognizable words that you know that your child likes to read and/or print, please send them our way by Tuesday June 2.

Outdoor Addition and Subtraction

Wednesday we went on a nature walk and  scavenger hunt.  JSO and JSP each took the same list of natural objects outside and we did a little search.  We took a picture of the different objects we found.  Today we got together to look at the pictures of what each class found.    Next we wrote some number sentences to represent the things we discovered in our school yard.  Take a look at what we found!
