Let's Talk Science

Yesterday, we had a presentation from Let's Talk Science! Students from the University of Windsor taught us about dinosaurs.

We learned that some dinosaurs eat meat and are called carnivores and some eat plants and are called herbivores. Carnivores have sharp, pointy teeth to chew their food and herbivores have flat, dull teeth to grind up leaves.

Carnivores have eyes that are close together so they can see the meat they are eating. Herbivores have eyes that are farther apart so they can see all around them to watch for carnivores that want to eat them. They also have long necks to reach the leaves that are high on the trees.

Dinosaurs are different colours to camouflage themselves from other prey. The scientists that study dinosaurs are called paleontologists. They find the fossils of dinosaurs that give us information about how the dinosaurs looked and what they did. There are fossils that are bones and fossils that are like footprints.

We got to do some fun things with dinosaurs today! We made puppets that showed the different types of teeth and eyes that herbivores and carnivores have. We made a dinosaur's skeleton, we dug for fossils in a chocolate chip cookie, and we created our own fossils with dinosaur footprints.
