Our Trip to Ojibway

We had such a fabulous time today at Ojibway! Thank you to all the parents who joined us. We spent the day learning about animals and walking and talking out in nature. What a wonderful way to welcome the change in weather!

We started off inside where Ms. Mary taught us some interesting things about the animals that live in our local habitats. We're sure your children can probably remember some facts they heard today about these creatures. The baby birds in the top picture can only do 2 things...

There is something special about the spots on this guys back, and he has a very different way of swallowing his food (it has to do with his eyeballs)...

This is a female. How do we know?

We also played some games...

Then we headed outside to go for a nature walk and discover all sorts of cool things!

In this little bubble is a nest for flies.  The mother fly lays the eggs in the stem and they start to grow. The flies will hatch and eat their way out.

We found a caterpillar on the trail!

We saw some turtles enjoying the sun!

We saw a lot of deer tracks in the mud. Can you see them?

We got to see holes in the tree that were made by a woodpecker!

We found a little stream!

Can you see more deer tracks?

We did some bird watching too! We learned that a chickadee is a type of bird that would eat seed out of our hands!

When we got back, we got to meet Foxy the snake! We also got to pet the snake!

We saw many of the things that have been collected over the years at Ojibway. We learned to leave things in nature and not pick up anything outside to bring home, as tempting as it might be. We also got to see turtles, snakes, and fish!
